Bengaluru’s FermionIC Design has expanded its indigenous Ku-band RF portfolio with a new 2-channel Front-End Module (FEM) and Power Amplifier (PA) optimized for 15–18 GHz, designed to complement the company’s existing Ku-band 4-channel beamformer.

The new 2-channel FEM delivers Psat above 38 dBm, while the receive path provides more than 26 dB gain with a 3–3.5 dB noise figure. An integrated power detector further supports RF power monitoring and system-level integration.

FermionIC's PA performance data also shows its FD3RF0405X2 reaching around 39.5 dBm output power with 36.7% Power Added Efficiency (PAE) at 16.5 GHz, highlighting the device's performance across the Ku-band frequency range.

By combining the FEMs with its 4-channel Ku-band beamformer, FermionIC is targeting more compact tile architectures for Ku-band phased-array systems, where integration of beamforming, transmit power amplification and receive functionality is critical for reducing RF front-end size and complexity.

The development is another step in FermionIC's broader push to build an India-designed RF front-end portfolio for applications such as phased-array radar and SATCOM, reducing dependence on imported RF semiconductor components.

What do you think of FermionIC building the FEM, PA and Beamformer building blocks needed for indigenous Ku-band phased-array systems?
