GX Quantum Photonics Plans ₹500 Crore Optical Transceiver Manufacturing Plant in India
GX Quantum Photonics plans to establish a ₹500 crore optical transceiver manufacturing facility in India, targeting optical connectivity hardware used in data centers and high-speed communication networks.

India's GX Quantum Photonics is planning a ₹500 crore manufacturing facility for optical transceivers, targeting a critical segment of the high-speed communications and data center infrastructure market.
According to information shared by Westway Electronics, the planned facility is expected to manufacture optical transceivers for data centers, with production targeted to begin in December 2026.
Optical transceivers are essential components in modern communications infrastructure, converting electrical data signals into optical signals and vice versa. These devices enable high-speed data transmission across data centers, telecom networks and fiber-optic communication systems.
For engineers working in high-speed electronics, photonics, RF and mixed-signal systems, optical transceivers bring together technologies such as laser drivers, transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs), photodetectors, signal conditioning and high-speed signal integrity.
The planned investment could strengthen India's domestic capabilities in optical networking hardware, a segment that is becoming increasingly important as AI data centers, cloud computing and high-speed network infrastructure continue to expand.
While India has developed substantial capabilities in electronics manufacturing, domestic production of specialized communication components remains an important opportunity.
Projects focused on optical transceivers could help build local manufacturing expertise and support the development of a broader optical communications supply chain.
What do you think of India developing domestic manufacturing capabilities for optical transceivers used in data centers and high-speed networks?
