The European Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) has announced €22 million in funding for five new 6G research initiatives, including a project designed to strengthen collaboration between India and Europe.

According to an ET Telecom report, the selected research proposals aim to advance next-generation communication technologies from research activities toward larger-scale experimentation and practical applications.

Among the initiatives is EU-INDIA-6G-BRIDGE, which will establish a coordination hub connecting stakeholders from India and Europe. The initiative is intended to support cooperation across research organizations, industry participants, and other stakeholders involved in developing future wireless technologies.

The broader funding programme focuses on areas including AI-ready data, experimentation, and emerging communication capabilities. Such research is relevant to the development of intelligent and adaptable networks beyond 5G.

For RF and wireless engineers, future 6G research may involve advances in radio access networks, spectrum utilization, AI-assisted signal processing, antenna technologies, network intelligence, and wireless system testing. The specific technical deliverables of each funded project will depend on its approved research scope.

The EU-India initiative represents another opportunity for India's telecommunications research ecosystem to participate in international discussions and collaborative development activities as global organizations explore future 6G standards.
