PierSight's RF Systems Director Dr. Jolly Dhar Elected to International Academy of Astronautics
Dr. Jolly Dhar, Director of RF Systems at Indian space technology startup PierSight, has been elected as a Member (Academician) of the International Academy of Astronautics and recognized with the Distinguished Women Scientist 2026 award for her contributions to radar and spaceborne SAR technologies.

Dr. Jolly Dhar, Director of RF Systems at Indian space technology company PierSight, has been elected as a Member (Academician) of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), recognizing her contributions to space technology and radar engineering.
According to an announcement by PierSight, Dr. Dhar was also recently honored with the Distinguished Women Scientist 2026 award by the National Commission for Women (NCW), New Delhi, for her contributions to India's space and radar technology ecosystem.
During her tenure at ISRO's Space Applications Centre (SAC), Dr. Dhar contributed to several important projects involving airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and spaceborne SAR payloads for the Radar Imaging Satellite series.
Synthetic Aperture Radar is an advanced remote sensing technology that uses microwave signals to generate high-resolution images of the Earth's surface.
Unlike conventional optical imaging systems, SAR can operate during both day and night and provide imaging capabilities under many weather conditions.
Her contributions also extend to mentoring young professionals in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
She has been featured in the NCW National Calendar for October 2026, representing the theme Aangan se Antariksh.
At PierSight, Dr. Dhar leads RF Systems activities as the company develops SAR-based technologies for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) applications.
Her experience in radar payload development and microwave engineering supports the company's efforts in India's emerging commercial space technology sector.
The recognition highlights the contributions of Indian RF and microwave engineers to advanced spaceborne radar technologies and the growing role of women scientists in India's aerospace and semiconductor-related engineering ecosystem.
