Qualcomm, one of the world's leading semiconductor companies, is preparing to reduce its global workforce as part of a performance-focused restructuring following its annual employee reviews, according to a Reuters report.

The announcement was communicated through an internal memo from Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon, reviewed by Reuters. Employees affected by the reductions are expected to begin receiving notifications in November 2026.

According to the report, the planned workforce reductions are intended to strengthen Qualcomm's performance culture and address situations where employees have consistently fallen short of company expectations.

The company has not disclosed the number of positions expected to be eliminated. Reuters also reported that it could not independently determine the overall scale of the planned reductions.

Qualcomm, a major supplier of Snapdragon processors, cellular modems, and wireless connectivity technologies, has faced challenges in the consumer electronics market. The report highlights weaker consumer electronics sales and rising memory prices as factors affecting demand in key markets.

Qualcomm has a significant engineering presence in India, including teams working on semiconductor design, wireless communications, RF technologies, and software development. However, the report does not specify whether employees in India will be affected or which engineering divisions may experience reductions.

The development will be closely watched by semiconductor professionals worldwide, particularly engineers working in RFIC design, wireless systems, modem development, and semiconductor validation.
